I just bought the new Moreland and Arbuckle album "Flood". It is REALLY good. Tons of quality harp playing in many styles. Just off the top of my head I heard Chicago Jump Blues, Hill Country Blues, some Sonny Boy II style blues, bluegrass, Delta Blues, and more. And, none of it is just copycatting. It's all reinterpreted and pushed through with a new Modernized aesthetic. He plays amped (with thick tone) and also goes acoustic on several tracks... Arbuckle's singing is the same: he's channeling the old masters, but doing it in his own new way. He's got a lot of talent. Moreland's guitar playing (three string cigar box. dobro, banjo, and more) is also fantastic. I give this album a really high 9. Get it, you will not be sorry.

I'm glad I got the word out! You will be very pleased with it I'm sure. For what it's worth they are also on tour here in the States, but unfortunately they are touring as the opening act for George Thorogood and the Destroyers. If you like GTATD, that's cool, but I'm not a big fan at all, and to me it only means that the tickets are priced double than they ought to be, the crowd at the show will be obnoxious and not really into Moreland and Arbuckle, the venue will be too big and not very intimate, they will only be able to play a short set, they'll go on early so they can't really get into it properly, and there is no way in hell that I would be able to convince my wife to go with me (she hates GTATD way more than I do). Plus, they are only playing in Tucson, and that's a 2 hour drive for me... Boo! I'd definitely make the drive if it was just them playing in small club. Anyway, hopefully, they will come around again on their own after this tour, and I can go see them at a better venue... ;)

I got 2 free tickets to see them tonight because a buddy of mine in Phoenix is good friends with them. They'll be playing in a small venue, the Railto Theater. I'll definitely pick up their new CD tonight. I have their other CDs from when they played a small club here in Tucson several years ago.

Cisco: That's pretty cool! I'd definitely go if it was just them playing at Club Congress or something... Oh well... Yeah, the Rialto is a pretty cool theater, but I still hate GTATD! ;)

Great show last night. They could only play for 30 minutes but they had the audience in a dancing frenzy. Dustin was using an EV600 mic into a Valco clone amp from www.vintage47amps.com and the combination sounded great and ballsey with the amp mic'd through the PA. We hung out with the band before and after the show. Definitely get their latest CD called Flood. They have 4 CDs currently and I have all of them.

George Thorogood was OK, but not as good as Moreland and Arbuckle.

Cisco, thanks for that review! Yeah, that's exactly how I thought it would go: Short set, but they would still be MUCH better than Thorogood... I won't miss them if/when they come around again!
