I just received a very old small lacquered tweed case in fantastic condition from rbeetsme and now I need to find a good source of layered diced foam to finish the project of making the case for carrying my bullet mics, pedals and harps. Anyone have any good internet leads? There doesn't seem to be anyone in Tucson that carries the stuff.

Try Jo-Ann Fabrics near the intersection of Kolb and Broadway (IN TUCSON). They have a great selection of foam. Go there and take a look. i find calling stores to ask specific questions never gets good results. Its good to know theres another harper from AZ.

a good way of making a custom foam insert is to use layers of foam. for instance if your case is 4 inches deep use four layers of 1 inch foam.cut them so they fit the lenghth and width of the case. on the top layer you trace the item you want to protect. if the item is like a bullet mic three inches deep then you cut through the first layer of foam and lay that on the second layer and cut through the second layer then lay that on the third layer so that all three layers match your tracing. place the three on top of the bottom layer this gives you an inch of solid foam under the item and it looks neater than the pluck stuff and doenst have to fit square shape. if your harps are only an inch thick you only cut through the top layer of foam. for a chromatic use could use two layers etc.. assemble the foam after you've done your cutting.you can permanently assemble the foam by laminating the pieces together with the spray stuff they sell to attach the foam to the interior of the case. some places use electric carving knives to cut the foam.
