I went to their youtube account. Forgive me Adam for opening this up but they got me pissed off.
Some of the worst harmonica playing from a supposed pro authentic band. The groove on the Thrill is Gone didn't exist. I'm sorry you guys can fry me but when pretenders like this have the stones to say their something great, they put themselves up for review in the public arena.
Ok now you guys can tear me apart it's only fair. If your gonna dish it out you gotta be ready to take it. www.youtube.com/diggsblues http://www.myspace.com/diggsblues2 http://www.myspace.com/smokehouseapples http://www.myspace.com/marcusanddamicoproject

These guys Adam closed their post calling how not to post. I agree with him. The thing that got me ticked was to me they represent bad blues playing calling it the authentic blues. Maybe I'm cranky and need a nap.LOL
If nothing else, it drives home the importance of a good professional sound check. Never really got to hear the harp, but the next song was probably way too loud and the guy in the hat probably told him to turn back down...lol. This is a pretty good example of how bad sound can make you look bad as a band. There's really no way to tell what a band sounds like when the sound is that uneven. Chances are the musicians couldn't hear themselves either and played differently too.
Overall, i give it a 6. I'd stay for the next song to see if they got better. I've heard bands sound worse than that out of the chute and smokin' hot by the end of the set. Even the sound guy may be tweaking things to improve it. I hear potential.

I've certainly heard worse singing--I've occasionally committed some myself--but I think he's playing the wrong key harp. The harp into sounded bizarre. Not good-bizarre.
I thought about commenting on that thread. It was annoying. They didn't even edit it; there were old concert dates on it.
I just wasn't in a civil enough mood to post a comment and it was just bellow the spam threshold for the nuclear option since it technically had harp content. I actually looked for other comments from the poster to see if it was a trend. It said it was their 3rd post, but I couldn't find the other two to see if this was a serial spammer.
The Latest News You Can Use From Award-Winning SoCal Blues Group… PAPA J & BLUES GONE SOUTH
“Blues Gone South embodies all blues traditions with a strong repertoire of original material and cover songs…(front person) Papa J has a suprisingly superb set of pipes…the band’s playing is precise and impassioned…each musician is a master of his instrument. Blues Gone South easily covers the entire blues spectrum and then some.
“Papa J” is a great showman who dazzles audiences with his howlin’ harmonica
Man you blokes are definitely a tough audience :), I thought at least they are out there having a crack, and they can't really go around promoting themselves as a ‘just mediocre blues band’ can they?
I thought posting that ad on the forum like that though was quite bad manners.
hey , I only listened to high on the hog. i dont think they're that bad. ive gone to alot of jams that are sounding a lot worse. they are just learning also if high on the hog is an original song its pretty good, i could hear that with a horn section (no harp) and that would sound ok. and hey they're just looking for work what do yo expect there gonna right in their press release. did you notice they dont give credit to anybody who wrote the quote. i say good luck to them
