I have been playing for several years. sometimes a harp miss a note r the note is getting out of tune.
I have a feeling that my mouth water dries out inside the harp.
I have tried to put the harp into hot water - even with some detergent but It doesn't seem to help.
Now I need some external thoughts, thanks

If you go to YouTube and type in Cleaning Harmonicas. You'll find lots of videos demonstrating different ways of doing it. Steve Baker who works for Hohner has a video on the subject on YouTube. I'd probably be inclined to follow his advice.

If u use a toothbrush----cut bristles very short with sharp scissors

Even then go mostly sideways

its hard getting a bristle out when stuck. hence short bristles

Again tons of videos online
hope that helps

after years a reed or two may go flat---learning to tune and learning "which" tuning u prefer is important for anyone down the road.

You don't say what harmonicas you are using, but assuming they are made of metal and plastic held together with screws, you can easily take them apart and wash them with detergent and warm water.

Marine Band Classics (wood comb, nails) are like cats, they don't take well to baths. You are best doing as little as possible. The dry gunk around the inside of the channel openings can be softened with a little playing and then scraped out with a mini-screwdriver.

Pocket lint can get into the gaps and affect tone, response and volume. Take the covers off (pry them off if they are MBs) and run a shim the length of the gaps to clear the lint. The metal strips inside RFID tags are good shim material.

Don't do what I did and try to ream the channels with an ear swab. Kinda like a Russian invasion; it never goes as planned and ends badly for all concerned.

I have an ultrasonic cleaner that I use. They aren't expensive.
