Jason is amazing. Great band. Good dynamics. Great variety in the show. If you're not into Jason's more "out there" stuff, listen to his straight ahead blues numbers from this show. He is VERSATILE.
I love these videos too - they're a great advertisement for the Ultimate 57! ---------- /Greg
@Greg : Actually, I found these vids on your website. I saw Jason live twice and I noticed that really cool red mic he held... Now I know where it came from ! Your mics look beautiful, nice work !
i am seeing him tonight in winter park colorado... can't wait. if anybody can keep me awake after a hard day on the bumps, jason and the guys would fit the bill!
They will be touring in Europe in May, June and July ; to this point, there are four dates in Belgium scheduled for that period, as well as Holland, Germany, Italy, Poland... But no UK yet. Maybe it will add eventually.
Yo Violin cat i was going to ask the Forum but seeing you are about i want to get some of your Albums
i liked the clip above, sorry Bro I'm Australian don't know of your albums what is your first album i think thats a good starting point to listen to your music,
then what is your most favorite album you know the one you had the most fun making im all ears..
Jason may very well be the most inovative, versatile, dynamic, and talented harmonica player of this generation. Not to mention influential. All you new players be sure and study Little Walter, Sonny Terry, James Cotton, and all the legends, but also study the blues masters of today, of which Jason Ricci is at the top.
Hey Jason, you were very gracious to talk to me and let me play your b-radical. I had a long day skiing and a couple beers and needed to pass out, so did not make it to the last set. My in-laws were there, they really enjoyed the show. I am biased, but the fact that they were grooving to you @ 70 years old is proof of how appealing your music is.
To the rest of you, the band is kicking, they are working on new tunes (jason said new album fall maybe, and shawn is putting one out in a couple months too). If they are near you, don't just get yourself there, but drag as many friends to the show as you can. The crowd was not very big, but jason put everything out there (in spite of the altitude)
Some of my favorite parts of the show last night... The new funk tune (geeze shawn's solo was amazing), watching the 20 something ski dudes (aka dirtbags) looking uncomfortable at the lyrics of "broken toy", covering a jazz standard and turning it into tear it up rocker, and most of all... every damn time jason picked up a harp.
Nastyolddog - Jason has 2 albums out. The first was "Rocket Number Nine" and the more recent is "Done with the Devil" - check out his web site http://www.jasonricci.com for more info. ---------- /Greg
Actually there is at least one more studio album and one live.
The first album (from 1996) is not with New Blood, it's titled "Jason Ricci" and it's a great blues album, kind of Chicago style, with fantastic harp playing. It's much more "classic" than the two most recent CDs but it's great anyway.
