Hi gang. My company paid us a bonus on cash flow, negative earnings and some other nonsense that allowed the retiring company president to get a bonus from a company with a 12 million dollar net loss last year.
SO...I am mulling over a couple of gear purchases. The Musician's Friend store is a couple hours away, so the extra 9.99 shipping on a lady luck cabinet is cheaper than the gas to go get one. That is one of the gear choices...replace my twin 12s with one of those. Output should be about the same because of the efficiency differences, but I'm impressed with the tone I've heard in lady luck clips on youtube.
That one seems like a no-brainer.
I am also considering a mic with a more made to order chicago tone. In spite of the wide variety of tones my dynamic mic gives me, the straight up chicago gritty saxophone honk eludes me. I can get close, but I think there's a little more I could get with the right mic. I'm talking about the Dave barret tone on so many of his clips. It's more bassy compared to mine, but still has that honk in with it. When I tight cup, my dynamic mic gets bassier, but the characteristic honk is also reduced. I love trumpet tones and those come easily. The bassy sax tone is what i'm after.
So, here's my bid for microphone suggestions...sound clips are welcome as well. Help me pick a honkin' blues mic to play through my unmodded valve junior and a lady luck cab.
