I recently found an old Marine Band of mine. I think it may be from the late 1970s or early 1980s. Is there an easy way to tell when it was made?

If it was made prior to the early to mid 80's, the one very noticeable difference between stock since the mid 80's and earlier is that the back of the cover plates is much more wide open than the ones made prior to the mid 1980's.

This should help.

It's harder to tell with later models, but there still are some differences.

Thanks, Bob and Nate.

I will read Richard's article. By the way, I have only the bottom of the box it came in, and it says "Hicksville LI, NY" so it is, not surprisingly, from after 1960.

This will be a fun learning experience.

I’m rusty on this stuff, but I think the Hicksville address puts it no later than ‘82
I think it’s difficult to narrow the production date much further than that, at least I don’t know how to get more accurate about it

My guess is that my MB is from the mid to late 70s.
