I could just look it up of course. I get confused about these amps but maybe it’s coming back to me. Sonny Jr I think was a 25 watt 4x8” combo, allegedly based on old masco circuits
Sonny Jr 2 was a 2x25 watt, 6x8” combo, I’ve seen claims it’s based on a 5D4 (Tweed Super) but maybe also elements of the Masco design. I have one of these which has been in the shop since July but I believe it’s coming home next week. It’s just in for a maintenance service, really crazy to take so long but that’s the tech situation here atm, especially with uncharted stuff like this. I’ve also seen claims these amps were based on the Danelectro Commander.
I think after that it’s all the Bassman designs
Sonny Jr 410 Cruncher Super Cruncher Avenger
Last year I paid $2500 AUD for an Avenger which was supplied with a hot crystal mic which I’d probably have to pay $400 at least, so say $2100 AUD which is about $1300 USD. Amp is mint condition, lightly used, one previous owner. It was previously advertised at $3000 and failed to sell.
Purchase of the Avenger was why I decided it was time to have the Sonny 2 serviced as I thought I would probably try to sell it. I purchased the SJ2 in 2018 for $1200 AUD. The exchange rate was a bit better back then, so that was more like $900 USD.
Fact is, it’s about the market. These are large amps and this is a very small market for large amps of any kind, and harp amps probably more so than any other. I’d be able to sell my Princeton Reverb for at least $2500 and likely more, pretty easily, but a big lump of a boutique harp amp needs the right person to come along. In the UK with close to triple Australia’s population and also close to continental Europe I expect you’ll be able to fetch a better price for the Cruncher than I would be able to get down here.
