I came across this video and thought I'd share it. I've been addicted to it for a couple of days. Just can't seem to get it out of my head. So without further ado, enjoy-
I'm sorry. I gave in. To be honest, it's the sound I love and what's been stuck in my head. I'm not so hot on a lot of her more jazzy stuff but this was cool.
"I'm curious if this is the same Rachelle Plas that is the ass-kicking Judo chick from France?"
Do you need your ass kicked or something? There's no need to go to france for that. Come to AZ and I will beat you silly, it's cheaper for you and you won't have the added humiliation of getting stomped by a teenage chick.
Sounds like a win win to me.

Is that an invitation for a free harp and free lesson? :-) ---------- The more I learn about harmonica, the more I learn how much more there is to learn.
Brief biog. of Rachelle Plas, copied from the program of the UK harp festival last weekend:-
Born 1992 France Learnt flute from her mother Started to play harp from a little book by JJ Milteau
8 years old, began to study at a harmonica school at Utopia in Paris. She studied for 6 years with Greg Zlapinski
Won a blues harp contest 2005 in France and has appeared at several blues and harp festivals since.
Rachelle is currently studying at the University of Sorbonne in Paris

Greg, I am sure she did all the parts having seen her last saturday. Frankly the self-confidence and dynamic energy radiating out of her on stage is awe- inspiring. The backing band were much older seasoned pro's, and my god she lit a fire under them, it was funny really. Nick
She is the same chick who is champion in martial arts (Judo ? Haikido ? don't know) and she is NOT a lesbian (she posted here a while ago to cut off that rumor, spread by some guy who pretended to know her personnally, which was false). Not to say there's anything wrong to being gay, of course.
I like a lot the way she plays, and she's only 18 ! How will she play in ten years ?

woah! ..what a breath of fresh aire...nothng stop'n her. She's got it all... I agree...she lit a fire!! And (she lit a fire) in my heart, too. And don't piss her off, either... She can flip me anytime! Step aside, just a little....Christelle. I almost feel like I'm cheatin. OMG!..and that cat can play guitar, too. Joe Louis Walker. Thanks for posting that clip. Another reason to have a forum. I never would have known about her, at least so soon.
Here's another one. This has got a really fun call and response with three harps going. I can't help but dance to it and play along. Very cool and of course Rachelle's solo is pretty sick.

I see that she won the silver medal in her weight category at the World Junior Judo Championships in late October ... just before the NHL harp event ...
Perhaps this is the way of the future? Just as in pro sports like golf/baseball/hockey over the last ten years, getting into/staying in top notch physical shape may be a key to further advancing our instrument?
OK boys, time for the protein smoothies, the weight room, core strengthening, etc. ...
Perhaps we should all add a workout into his our practice schedules? I'm only saying this partly tongue in cheek as Adam has often mentioned his running efforts ...

CarlA - I think they would if she looked like Pat and played like Rachel..
If she looked like Pat and danced/dressed like Rachel.. Well.. Probably not so much.. ---------- Greg Jones 16:23 Custom Harmonicas greg@1623customharmonicas.com 1623customharmonicas.com
CarlA: I rarely use the word "sexist" in ordinary conversation, much less direct it toward a member of this forum, but in reference to your comment about if a gifted female harp player was less physically attractive, people would find her less talented......I'm just sayin.
Actually, I'll go further than that, and I'll include Greg in my lament/rant. Jesus fing christ, guys. She deserves better.

@ kudz My comment was based on not just this, but previous threads on MBH about Rachel where most drooled over her looks than any other aspect of her talent. She is a fantastic harp player, as I stated in my comment. To each his own
That Hohner video has 275,000 views - more than all the other Masters of the Harmonica series put together. I think Howard Levy is in 2nd place with a little over 50,000.
I had a pack (~4)of 12 yr. old boys venture into my shed where I was practicing and listening to some YouTube last night. After I ran out of things to play for them I said, "check out this girl harp player" and clicked on one of Rachelle's videos. The first comment I heard was, "hey she can sing too".
She's a very pretty kid, and she's only about 8 years older than those little boys that came by to hear me play. Let's try to keep this in perspective and revel in the joy that the next generation of harp players is in such talented hands. There are plenty of opportunities to be dirty old men, but let's curb it and see where this kid goes.
