Hi, my name is Felix Flanagan and I' ve been playing harp for about 50 years. I wish there had been something like this when I was coming up. My reference text was How to play Blues Harmonica, by Tony " Little Son " Glover. That's all there there was! Great ok, though. I would just like to say that, if you are interested in Blues music and Blues Harmonica, you have come to the right place. I heartily endorse and approve of Adam and this wonderful website. Blow your harmonica, Son!

Hi everyone! My name is Ezell, everyone calls me Ez as in easy. I have been interested in the harmonica for a couple of years now but in just the past couple of months have really been getting into it and wanting to learn more. I am interested in anything blues related and music in general. I know the blues has a rich history and am looking forward to learning and sharing more. Bye!

Hello Adam and other members, I am happy to have found this forum, after watching a few youtube vids. I am a self-taught harp player of well lets just say I started at the age of 15 and am now 58. Not that I am an expert, since I am still learning as everyone can. So far I have noticed a few things I can improve on, mainly my breathing style since I play slow Mississippi blues.
Anyway thanks for havin me here, take care and keep Wailin' On!!

Hey there
I'm Anders from Copenhagen. I started playing when I was 15 but took a 20 year hiatus and recently picked up the harps again, I'm now 42. I'v been snooping around for a while, getting inspiration and motivation. I've built a few mics from old phones and like til keep it simple. I play in a band where we mainly make Danish versions of blues classics. Check the link bellow. :) https://soundcloud.com/blueciferbluesband/you-changed-my-way-of-living

Hi all. Stan here from Northern New Jersey. I'm a big fan of the Blues in all its styles. I have physical issues, so as some may say it's a hindrance, I look at it as a blessing. Before being disabled, too many things kept me bouncing like a ping pong ball. But since I can't get around like I used to, I actually have more time to practice on my harps. My ultimate dream is to one day go to The Crossroads.

Hi everyone I am a blues harmonica of many years although over the past few years having discovered overblows I also now play any style on my diatonic. I have one video on YouTube but it's only a fun video I made years ago called blues harmonica legend sockrock. I hope you enjoy. Have fun all.

Hi all, I'm a beginner harp player from England, I've been playing for over a year but I love all types of blues - but mainly Chicago blues. I prefer listening to the masters playing as that's the real stuff, as opposed to modern groups trying to copy it. That's just my opinion.
Anyway, keep harping everyone!

I'm surprised no one asked about my original message about Ed Kollis. I'm with him now having a beer talking about Elvis Reggie Young, and a whole lot of others!

Hi all,
I'm happy to finally join the MB forum. I live in NH. Played harmonica since around '83. First to accompany my guitar and started playing cross maybe 10 years after. A harmonica player friend told me many years back that I was holding the harp wrong. I didn't listen to him because I'm just too cool to change. Ive jammed a lot with friends and sat in with friends bands which sometimes was great but after the last couple times. Last year I decided to not do that until I got better and had my own amp and a good sound. I've seen some of Adams videos over the years. 3 months ago I made the commitment to develop my technique and re-learn. I put aside my lee oscars which I've only used and got my first Marine Band. I've watched tons of videos of mosttly Adam and Jason R and others. I bought Adams very beginner lesson. That was huge for me. I've read tons on this forum and learned so much info about gear mics etc... I'm much happier now. And yes I was holding the harp wrong.

Here in Park River, ND. pop. 1403, originally from the same area as Prof. Gussow used to busk, 136th Street & Riverside Dr. Played congas (doubles & single) sitting in with mostly salsa & afro-Cuban. Lived all over since then. LA, San Diego, Tucson,Birch Bay, Washington. For the past dozen years been playing shakuhachi for meditation mostly. Got the harp bug after hearing Charlie Musslewhite do "Christo Redentor". Then, coincidentally enough, after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, the VA doctor recommended blues harp to strengthen my lungs. I have just begun with Beginners Deluxe course. I resonate with slow blues, like James Cotton, Musselwhite, Adam Gussow, Steve Guyger & 'Little Walter' can do so well.

Hi Guys & Girls,

I'm Tank (aka Keith) and I'm over the pond in the UK.
I'm totally new to Blues Harmonica, though I've played music for almost 40 years, and 30 of those years I've been playing Jazz & Blues in all sorts of groups, touring many countries.

I'd like to say a MASSIVE "Thank You" to the man himself, Mr Gussow, for all the youtube tutorials, and I must say that I like the way that he refers to scale tone intervals...it makes things SO MUCH CLEARER to me, being primarily a horn player. I've ordered a harp (Suzuki Bluesmaster in C) from an online retailer, as our local music stores only stocks cheep and nasty, or Lee Oskar, and having looked at the Lee Oskar they seem a little sharp on the mouth...being a pro horn player, that's something I have to avoid...If I rip myself up I'd be screwed if I had a gig on!

I'm really looking forward to this next leg of life's musical journey! My harp should arrive with the morning mail tomorrow (if I'm lucky) so wish me luck...I WILL learn to play it, after 40 years, it's too darn late to be quittin'!!!!

Hello everyone.

I love the blues, but I'm not a blues musician. I'm more of a beginner harp player and haven't suffered enough to qualify as a bluesman and I have no desire to suffer.

Saying all of this I would still like to play blues (and a few other things) on the harmonica.

Some of my harmonica heroes are: Charlie McCoy, Little Walter, Jazz Gillilem, Slip Harp, Sam Myers, Charles Musclewhite, Annie Raines, Christine Berton, Adam Gussow, and Todd Parrott. Of course, there are others.

Well well here I am.(been lurking around for a week or so without posting anything)
Now I play the guitar mostly blues.
My youngest son plays drums but he decided to pick up a second simple toy instrument so he in now learning the ukulele.
My wife plays the clarinet but she decided to pick up a second simple instrument so she is learning the bass.
Well seeing this, I decided maybe I should pick up a second simple toy instument so I thought the harmonica would fit the bill right?...........

I mean it's just a stocking stuffer, something we all found in our easter baskets as kids right?.....

Now my nephew who is a top notch musician gave his harmonicas to my youngest son, He said he didn't like them. A Hohner super chromonica harmonica and a hohner hot metal harmonica. Now any instrument with a name like hot metal has got to be good right?....

And of course that chromonica is a $200 harp so as we all know, anything that expensive is going to be the best harp on the planet right?......

Well I really wanted to learn how to play "When the Levee Breaks" on the harmonica, so I though I would take a few days and learn it now that I had these two awesome Harmonicas right?..........

Well I went on youtube and found this guy playing an awesome version and thought to myself "this is the perfect place to start" right?..........

So after about 3 months of dinking around with that video and practicing. (well at least thats what I called it)
I Learned two things
#1: I could make a choo choo sound
#2: A whole lot of new respect for harmonica players
Any way I was on the verge of giving up and just sticking to my guitar but I noticed over those 3 mounths that on the side bar of my youtube chanel that a video kept popping up almost every time, (Blues Harmonica 101: the essential lesson for beginners) By Gussow's classic blues harmonica videos. So I clicked on it....
I can't believe how far I come in just a couple of week's.
So anyways Here I am. Good to meet you all.

Guitar player new now to learning harmonica 2nd time around. The first time was about 10 years ago. Yes, I'm no spring chicken. Divorce and time stopped any progress. At that time I had a C Hohner pocket pal with cassette and written instructions from Scott McCloskey. I still have the tape but, am missing the written instructions. I sure would like to get a copy if anyone should happen to read this

Hi all,
I'm from Gibraltar, I've been playing harp for a number of years now, but I have been out of the the for the past 3 or 4 years as life got in the way. I have recently started playing again, I also play drums and a bit of bagpipes. I have recently been seeing a few videos on techniques such as overblowing and some of Adam Gussow on YouTube, I am quite keen to advance further, so any tips are greatly welcome :)

Hello,

I toyed around with the Hermonica since I was a kid (now 57) never got serious. I think I learned to play "twinkle twinkle" but that was a long time ago. That said, I have been seriously chasing the blues harmonica for about 3 weeks now. Just sending a shout to from Jacksonville, FL
