As an advocate of learning from as many tutors as possible I thought I'd give one of Ronnies paid, pre recorded lessons a go as I like his style on his regular youtube vids.
My question is... Has anyone purchased any of his 'licks' lessons, and if so which one and would you recommend it?
Thanks

I've purchased several, but the one I would suggest above all the others is the "Beginner's Blues Licks." There are quite a lot of them (14 or 15) with many suggested variations.

The great thing about this package is that the licks he includes are the foundation for countless classic blues licks. Get these down and you'll find yourself creating your own variations. I run through all of them as a practice drill at least several times a weeks, and am constantly using them while playing to jam tracks, etc

Thanks man, exactly the answer I was looking for.
Of the others you have would you recommend another?

@Ian

I've also got 1st position licks, intermediate blues licks, train rhythms, and the Intermediate Harmonica Techniques Video.

If doing it all over I'd probably only get the beginner licks package and the intermediate harmonica techniques video. The latter covers a huge amount of territory and has some great stuff.

I've done a couple of Ronnie's personal feedback sessions (where you send him a recording and he critiques/gives suggestions). This is worth doing at least once, so he can provide general tips on your playing (what you're doing wrong or right). If you do more than one you should have some specific questions or concerns. These sessions are obviously far more limited than a real lesson would be, but if ask a clear question Ronnie will give you a straight and thorough answer.

Thanks for the info. Its hard to decipher which of lessons would suit best, Adams previews are very useful.
I'll get the begginners licks first.

I'm like you in that I l enjoy using material from different people. My #1 choice would be Adam's Beginner Deluxe package, and also his lessons on bending the 2, 3 and 4 draw (I can't remember if any of those are included in the Beginner Deluxe, but if not you should get them separately). I've honestly got more out of Adam's various tutorials than from anyone else's stuff.

#2 would be Ronnie Shellist's Beginner Licks

#3 would be Jon Gindick's "Rockn' Blues Harmonica" and "Bluesify Your Melody."

Also, I've been considering trying some downloadable lessons from Sandy Weltman (sandyweltmanmusic.com). He has great, free previews of all his lesson packs. Definitely worth a look

At the moment my learning resources are.... In no particular order.

About 10 of Adams lessons
Winslows book
Couple of David Barretts books
And a few tab books, like the little Walter book and the 100 licks book.

I do find that adam's teaching style is genuinely excellent though. I think it's because he treats the video lessons like a real lesson, breaking the tunes in to sections, getting you to repeat parts after him etc etc. Really enjoying his crossroad blues lesson at the moment.

I like the look of what Ronnie does from his you tube videos so I'm sure I'll get something from it.

Ian, I can't advise which lessons to buy, but I did subscribe to his site when he was doing the multi-participant classes. They were great. The subscription gave access to the whole set of previous lessons so you could pick and choose all kinds of things. In addition I had a few skype lessons, but mostly used the personal feedback thing - I found these the most useful as finding a mutually convenient time for lessons got tricky (time zones, other commitments). I echo what Rontana said - good for focussing on something specific. And you get a recording that you play over. I got a lot out of it.

Ok, so I purchased the begginners blues lessons. They seem pretty good. Some of them I already know but some of them look like good foundational stuff that I probably already should be using.
I might try the intermediate lessons too as I imagine they would be closer to my level.
Its hard to know what would be best without previews to be honest.

Update.... for those who may want to know, now or in the future!
Really like the intermediate blues licks lessons. Lots to get in to.
