One of the things I like about MBH is when people demo their new harp/mic/amp/pedal they often post a video with great show-off riffs in it. For a long time I've used these as a source.
Here's just one for now I really like, it's from a while ago, but to start the ball rolling. Hophead75 showing us his VHT with some lovely TBing, slapping stuff on a low key harp that makes the amp go crunchy-crunch. I don't play much in that style in general (I love it solo but you don't get the same impact within a band) so it's good to get some of this going.
In the comments somewhere says it's a David Barrett riff, Mirco would know.
I recall seeing this one back in the VHT heyday. He has made a few of these; I've seen a Kalamazoo and a SF Champ in the same room. I expect it's true about DB as the source of material. Certainly seems in his style. Not sure I know what you mean by 'don't get the same impact in a band'. Maybe it depends on the band. I'm not expert but believe this fits in the 'west coast' style, and would fit beautifully with a band playing that style.
Hmmm, good point. OK probably I mean I don't feel I get the same impact when I play that style with my band, too much going on generally. And thinking of the jam bands I've seen (blues-rock), even more so.
Unpacking that a bit - actually we do play James Harman's Leaving For Memphis which has a slappy intro that starts solo and it's just that kind of sound. To my ears when the band kicks in half way through, the crunchiness is diminished. So yes, depends.
Maybe I mean I often hear it solo, as in demos, and I like it best then. Self accompaniment rhythm, that sound is attractive.

Here's a nice one from just a short while ago. I can't embed as it's not a YT vid, but it's 1847 demoing a wireless mic/pa-type speaker. About 2m30s you will be rewarded with some nice phrase at the top end.
