...and then there's the new songs. Or at least new to me. I heard this sad song on the radio with some lovely plaintive harp work. People are always going on and on about harp getting in the way of the song. Have a listen - what other instrument than a harp would you want here? Is it a tremolo at the end? A friend of mine plays one and it sounds like that.

I agree, very nice harp work in service of the song. Nothing can sound sad and plaintive like the harp. I think it's that human voice quality.
The latest songs with harp on them I've heard were from the new Don Henley album. One's called Bramble Rose (harp played by Mick Jagger) and the other No Thank You. I can't find YouTube videos that will work in my location but there was a thread on the main forum about it at some stage that had a video for Bramble Rose.

I just found out about Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin through a record review in the paper. He has an interesting harmonica style obviously influenced by Sonny Terry. Here are a couple of videos. What do you think?
Wonderful. I played the Nailmakers Strike over several times. I love the hypnotic quality.
The second one is a lovely example of that pure solo/train stuff. Including playing hands-free! In truth, there is only so much of that style I want to listen to, but it is massively impressive.
I agree Phillip Henry is an excellent player. The record review I mentioned described his playing as "imaginative" and I think that's a good description. I haven't heard too many others play like this.
