I happened across a website for Harp Depot which is apparently the base for Buckeye Music out of Dayton , Ohio . They carry a ton of different harps and accessories from many of the well known manufacturers . They are also producing their own harps in a variety of styles . One they make , called Soul's Voice , really caught my eye . It has phosphor/bronze reeds on a brass plate which is recessed into an ABS comb and is held together by 7 screws ( not counting the 2 cover bolts ) . Covers are stainless steel and can be ordered in a variety of colors ( polished stainless and gun-metal at base price ; other colors cost a little more ) . An aluminum comb is available as a bit more expensive option . Comes in 26 keys : 12 standard plus low F and high G along with natural and harmonic minors . Online price is $34.95 , plus shipping . Covers , reeds , etc. are available at very reasonable prices . I'm pretty impressed with what I'm seeing and was wondering if anyone had tried one of these Soul's Voice harps yet ?

I had one of their chromatics. It was very nice. I sold it to MTG and he has probably played it more than I ever did. The build quality seemed really good, and the sound was nice, I only got rid of it because I have pretty much switched to an alternate tuning so it was just sitting in a drawer waiting to get retuned when MTG expressed interest in a chromatic.
The company had a bad rap for a while, supply and shipping issues... I didn't know that when I ordered my harps from them and I had no problem. Quick communication and shipping. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe they fixed whatever was holding them back.

I don't have much experience of chromatics - just that one in fact! But that said, I agree the build quality seems good, everything works, the slide slides, all holes played right away, and with little air. It's in tune. I'm delighted with it and I don't see any reason to look for another one.

Crawforde - I don't know if you tweaked it at all to make it like that, but I've not had to. Apart from one windsaver that was a little rattley, just had a slight curve needed straightening out.

If this is indicative of the brand, looks promising to me.

I polished all the edges of the slide and mouthpiece where they articulate to make it run smooth. I played with a couple gaps, but didn't really do much. At one point I almost took all the odd numbered outside valves off like Brendan Powers suggests to get that bending expressiveness, but I never did.
