Hi everybody. I haven't posted here in a while, but a new year seems like a good time to say hi, and to direct folks towards several resources on this website and elsewhere that they may not know about.

One page on this site that I had forgotten entirely about might be of particular interest: the second FAQ's page, aka "basic blues harmonica questions answered." It offers links to a series of YouTube videos in which I did my best to offer quick, informative answers to the sort of questions that I imagined beginners might have. Here's the page:

All of these videos have been uploaded to my newer YouTube channel. If you go to the "videos" page for that channel and sort the 100+ videos from most to least popular, you'll find some very popular--and hopefully very useful--videos that aren't part of the list above, headlined by "fantastic shuffle rhythm for blues harmonica beginners":

If there's a particular subject of interest to beginners that I haven't covered and that you'd like to see me address, please suggest away. You may feel free to email me directly: asgussow@aol.com. (Don't ask for specific songs, please. I did quite a bit of that on my other channel, but it's not something I want to pursue on this channel. And of course I do a lot of that in the for-pay lessons available on this website in "the store" page and elsewhere.)

I always found that a new year was a great time to set goals for the coming months. The learning never happens on any particular day; competence often arrives later than you expect--although not always. Sometimes it surprises you. The key thing is to follow your passion. You should be playing, not working. The work shouldn't feel like work, which is to say drudgery. It should feel like the purposeful application of your passion and intelligence. Learn one new thing, however small, every day, and you'll make forward progress AND have fun doing it.

Best wishes for the new year.
