Hi, on April 7 there is going to be a harp contest endorsed by Seydel in my country (Chile). It is the only harp contest here so is the biggest!
More Info: http://clubdearmonica.cl/2018/01/24/seydel-open-chile-2018/
In order to participate, I need to send a video of me playing whit a Backingtrack so they can evaluate me. The best 10 players are going to be playing live on April in the actual contest whit a real band.
What is my goal: just to play a good shuffle. I don't feel comfortable enough yet to show up in a jam and say "lets play a shuffle!" and no to be nervous about it. So, if I can play a good shuffle live, that is a giant step for me.
This is the video that I send to the contest:
JT30 whit a CM and a Harp Train 10
I will let you know if I am picked to play on April! ---------- Sorry for any misspell, english is not my first language.
I reckon that is pretty good. I guess you are like me when the camera or recorder starts rolling it actually takes you out of the zone and puts you in a different headspace for a while. This playing got much better as you continued and got into it. You have a technique down nicely which I don’t have and I’m not even really sure what it is. I used to think it was tongue flutter but now I think maybe it’s tongue side to side wiggle. Can you tell me please. You used it first in your 3rd chorus I think, then used it quite a lot more as you went on.
I can see some tension in your neck in the first 3 or so choruses.
Good luck with the contest! You can only do your best of course, but you’re playing is definitely coming along. At its best here in this video it’s sounding very good!
I use the side to side wiggle. The flutter is more like an staccato effect.
