I started playing the harmonica in 1972 as a college freshman at the University of Florida (Go Gators!). for the next 35 or so years, I always had plenty of harmonicas around – almost exclusively Golden Melodys – and could play most anything by ear. But I rarely if ever played out or with other musicians. It was purely for my own enjoyment. Fast forward to about 2007 when I discovered a thriving harmonica community on the internet. I was immediately smitten. I started buying music and books and gear and hanging out on various online harmonica forums. In 2009 I decided to try my hand at making custom harmonica combs. I could see that there was a strong demand for custom combs but nobody was doing a particularly good job meeting that demand. I started my business on eBay and soon as I did I was immediately embraced by harmonica players around the world. It validated my decision to get into the business. My customers encouraged me. They counseled me. They educated me. They told me exactly what I needed to do to earn their business and their loyalty. And I listened. And so here we are six years later (I am writing this in late October 2016) and I now have a thriving harmonica business. I make 10 different models of custom combs, which covers all the 10-hole diatonics made by the major manufacturers – Hohner, Seydel, Suzuki and Lee Oskar. I make them from Wood, DuPont™ Corian®, Aircraft Grade Aluminum, Fancy Acrylic and Brass. I have learned how to build fine harmonicas and offer a broad variety of Hohner and Suzuki harps. I have had the pleasure of developing friendships with a great many prominent people within the harmonica community including artists, customizers, teachers and manufacturers. I have some exciting new projects in the works and I am having a lot of fun just doing what I love to do.
