I was born in Chicago back in '44,
My mother didn't like me, made me sleep on the floor,
When I was just nine she kicked me out the door,
Said, "I ain't feedin' your ass no more."
So I lived on the streets, and tried to learn to be sharp.
I was singing the blues and playin' the harp.
I used to pack a ham shank in a paper sack,
And go and play the blues by the railroad track,
Engineers would see me sittin' in the shade,
Wolfin' down the sammitches that I had made,
People walked by and they would tip their hat,
And say, My, but that little one-eyed boy is fat.
But I hoped that one day I would be a star,
And drive me a big long Cadillac car,
Be on TV, maybe HBO,
Hear my music playin' on the radio,
So I practiced and I practiced just as hard as I could,
And got to be not bad....but not that good.
Well, I like wimmins, and I like to eat,
I like most kinds of sausages and other meat,
I like to drink a little whiskey, drink a little more, and drink a little more and drink a little more,
And then when it's gone, I go down to the store,
And I buy me some whiskey, and I drink some more.
