I picked up an old vanity case at a car boot sale for £1 and have been trying to work out how to store the harps in it.
Suddenly it came to me. I found that plastic waste pipe [32mm] is just right for a Lee Oskar to slip into. The Suzuki Bluesmaster and tombo folk master were a little tight, but I softened the pipe with some boiling water and was able to squeeze it to be slightly oval so those harps also slip in easily. I cut it to 3.5 inch lengths so it is easy to hold onto the harp to remove it. Currently they are fixed together with sticky tape until I finalise the layout and then I might glue them together with solvent weld 'glue'. The pipe cost me £1.49 for 1.5 metres from Wickes and I had more than enough for my needs. The 1.5M lengths were in black, mostly it is only available in white.
Also in the case is my CX12 [tenor], the egg shaker and the lumpophone with a couple of leads. and some business cards and a play list. I think I need to somehow fit out the lid of the case, although the harps do stick up into it a little. Perhaps just stick a circle of fifths in it.

yes there is a spare gap at the moment, but I don't have a full set. The low d with turbo lids doesn't fit in a tube, but that lives in my pocket anyway.

hmm, first that pic was much too big now I've made it a bit small :^(
Third time lucky, that's a more sensible size. It alway sannoys me when people post enormous pictures that are bigger than the screen.

Good idea. I was thinking of making one with dividers of some sort as I'm not really happy with the foam rubber used by others. I bailed and bought one with a velour lining and a couple of trays. The harps lie lengthwise in the trays, and it's harder to identify the keys. I have 20 diatonics, two mics and about 20 feet of cable in it. I leave the chroms at home. Haven't touched one since I took up the diatonic,

I spent many a happy hour bank cleaning group selectors in Strowger exchanges before they went digital. I am now looking after records of cables

@lumpy

A female harp player I had the great privelege and pleasure of playing with recently had a pink vanity case like that one. She used it for the same thing, though I believe she used some kind of foam for harp slots.

She really was fantastic on the reeds. Style reminiscent to that of Norton Buffalo and Sonny Terry. Her name is Rene Carlson from NYC. As I understand, she's a former student of yours Adam. Check her out.

I hope it's not used waste pipe.

I've got a camera case I keep meaning to put into service as a harp holder.

this pipe is new, the bend I used to make the lumpophone was a used [well washed] one :^)

I tried my mates blues harp last night and they also fit in the 32mm pipe, but not quite as tightly as the Oskars.

Out of curiosity - did you keep or ditch the original boxes the harps came in?

@nacoran...Good idea on using the camera bag as a harp case. I have a bicycle trunk rack bag that use. It's perfect for my needs. I use a harp belt, so the belt fits in there along with a few backup harps. Tons of room in the main compartment left over. plus it has side pockets perfect for mics, cable a couple bottles of water,...more pockets for my set list and other goodies. AND it's water proof.

make a nice makeup case that! as for harp case i think it's ok but would have been better if you had used wood and just cut some slots in it and covered the wood with some thin foam. 6mm plywood is cheap enough to buy and would be easy to make a frame that fitted into the case. then you could get the harps closer together and get more slots in there.

I found an old wood box and made a harp case- You can get "pick and pluck" foam that's easy to make indentations in for harps, mics, etc.

Regarding the girl with the pink case- I bet she is the same person who was on the Blues Cruise Jan. 2010-she played with several of the bands during the Pro/Am jams- really impressive.
