Adam says: -
"I just got three stock Marine Bands...Man! They are great!...Do I think they selected from the best of the run? Yes."

Yeah, this is important. Way back in 1978 I wanted to buy a camera and I got talking to an old guy who ran a camera shop and he was really honest, he said to me "come to me for advice but don't buy a camera from me - go to Tecno in Euston Rd because they can sell them cheaper than I can and you're only a student."

And he told me that factories like Canon, Nikon, Minolta and so on, when they give or sell lenses to professional photographers who endorse them, they run tests on all their lenses and pull out the best ones for the pros, so that Joe Bloggs who goes to a shop with his $1,000 is effectively getting a factory second for his money. Well, the literal truth of this depends on the ratio of good lenses to bad and the ratio of pros to amateurs, but it's effectively the truth. I ended up with a Nikon FM (I always regretted not getting a Minolta MX) with a standard lens that wasn't all that good - noticeable vignetting, for example, when colour slides were printed on 10x8 at Kodak.

In the case of Hohner there are going to be far more good harps than there are pros, so the situation isn't so bad, but it's worth keeping in mind.

Marine Band reeds- closer to the face.
Golden Melody/SP20 reeds- further away from the face.

I was only talking about Hohner handmade harps, sorry for not making that clear. The theory is that if the reeds are nearer to you, then they're better suited for OB's because you have some sort of increased leverage over them.
