Anybody knows of/uses this harp shop? He seems to have most stuff available. However, the site looks kinda confusing (too much stuff).
Btw. did anyone of you check out a Freedom Harp? Any good?

The original Kevin`s Harps originally started out as a mail order catolog before being an online store (my old Philly buddy Steve Guyger turned me on to them), which later became Harp House and last year closed for good. The people from Harp Depot bought that domain and so I`d be wary because of the huge number of complaints ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte.

GH>If I'm not mistaken this kharps site is identical to Harp Depot which is a site that came under a lot of criticism for very poor / non existent customer service.
That said I did use Harp Depot for a period of 6 months ie approx 2 years ago when I found both service and prices to be exceptional. But I think I have been the only one on this forum that found them to be ok.
I couldnt imagine the Freedom harp to be anything more than a toy at $3.75.

I used Kevin for years and years and then a few more years as a mail-order by phone before internet. Always was great. Now that Harp Depot has it I wouldn't order guitar picks ----------

In the mid to early 90's they were great to deal with, but I haven't heard or read anything positive in recent years. ----------

Two years ago, Harp Depot was then owned by John Hall, who owns the Bushman Harps and he had sold the business to a guy he calls Doc, and Harp Depot has had a really terrible reputation ever since then. I've seen more complaints about Harp Depot since John sold it than nearly all other harp online stores combined twice over.
Harp Depot is now the official US distributor for Hering Harmonicas in the US, and from dealing with other Brazillian businesses, they're notoriously slow but adding Harp Depot in the mix makes that worse. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Their catologs were awesome. Thru them, I found out about a book about amplified tone that had tons of great pics of old amps, mics, and harps, published by Pete Sheridan and I think he now has that stuff available at http://www.petesheridan.net. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

I loved Kevins harps catalogs. looking at his 98 catalog right now. slick cover and pulp paper pages, even has a Magic Dick harp adv on the back side of the front cover. I wonder if Magic Dick Harmonicas ever saw the light of day??? This Catalog is not numbered wonder if its a collectors Item? Ive got some old F&R Farrell Co catalogs too mabe I should save these for my heirs...

I believe the original Kevin's Harps belonged to Kevin McGowan... who operated out of a men's haberdashery in Hightstown,New Jersey until he set up the mail order business. He was/is a great honest businessman, harper and friend... even though he dressed snappy and wore a bowler hat! But my advice to anyone thinking of using a company by that name now would be to approach with caution! ----------

@jonsparrow - I'll tell ya this. BBQ Bob may not always deliver a message in the most user friendly way, but if you want to play traditional Blues, you won't find many people that are willing to share the things he's learned freely. Back in the old days, we learned that stuff via trial and error. He gives good advice. If you want to play the old school traditional stuff, pay attention to what he's got to say. Listen to his stuff. He's a solid player.

I miss F&R Farrell. He had been around much longer than Kevin's and first started out as a snail mail business I think in the early 80's selling only chromatics, then later to compete with Kevin's, added diatonics to his catolog. He always had at least an inventory of $100K worth of harps all the time, especially with chromatics, and he was always the first one I'd go to for both price as well as availability for just about any chromatic you wanted and he was the only authorized reseller for Hohner chromatic harp reed plates outside of Hohner (and a better price than you'd get from Hohner). It's too bad when Dick Farrell passed away, his kids didn't want to keep the business. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

No question Eharp is a legend in harp circles. He forged his own reeds.
