After seeing this guitar on craigslist, I immediately responded. The owner/builder is a third generation luthier. His father and grandfather taught him and they play mainly bluegrass and gospel music. His father came to the restraunt we met at. It took about 3 weeks for this deal to come together. Our email correspondences seemed to have many days lag between them. I was beginning to think this might be some kind of kids playing a joke thing.
Well here is the ad:
This is a new small body acoustic guitar handcrafted here in Ohio by me; a third generation artist and luthier. It is one of a kind, and truly unique. It is built out of enhanced aged solid tonewoods (wood that's 30+ years old). This WAS NOT slapped together with green wood like some factory instruments. The tone is amazing, and the aged wood literally speaks for itself. It has a cool vintage look and feel. It's ideal for blues, fingerstyle playing, hawaiian slack key or lead guitarists. Other handmade and handcrafted guitars will cost you two to four times the price of this one. If you're interested in owning a handcrafted Ohio made guitar that is different from all the others; then look no further. Serious buyers only. New low price! ~SPECIFICATIONS~
*Enhanced Aged Solid European Spruce Top *Enhanced Aged Solid Flame Maple Back and Sides *Enhanced Aged Flamed Birdseye Maple Neck w/Truss Rod *Bound Ebony Peghead Overlay *Rosewood Fingerboard w/ Real MOP Dot Position Markers *Bass Enhanced Rosewood Bridge w/ Real MOP Inlays *Exotic Osage Orange Bridge Plate *Hand-carved tapered and parabolic shaped X-Bracing *Solid Mahogany Neck Block and End Block *Dovetail Neck Joint *Nickel Grover STA-TITE Tuners *Bone Nut and Saddle *Greven TOR-TIS pickguard *Hand Rubbed Antiqued Nitrocellulose Finish *White Galalith Bridge Pins *Real Hand-cut MOP inlays
As soon as I played this guitar, it said it found a home. It was buit about a year ago, has not a scratch, has that sweet sound that the gibson L-00 guitars are famous for (modeled after one), plays smooth as butter with low action, perfect intonation up the neck, and great tone. I was able to take this home for $275. It will blow away any new gibson or martin. I have been blessed with having the right guitars come my way. It reminds me a lot of my 1938 kalamazoo in sound and feel. The kalamazoo has been buzzing more and more. It needs a restoration and I have been keeping my eye out for something like it that I can use until the kalamazoo gets restored. So, here is another great guitar that nows calls my hands home. Walter
Here is my first batch with the new guitar. It is going through a vintage dearmond soundhole pu and princeton reverb amp. The pu and amp ands a flavor for sure, but you will get the gist of the sound. I will be doing some straight microphone recordings with it soon.

I recently played a Baby Taylor around this size. It was $300. Amazing how much sound can come out of such a little guitar if it's well made.
Your new axe is a beauty.

you are welcome Hobostubs.
Joch230: I have always played small body guitars and yes they will put out a ton of volume. My 1940 national steel style 0 is also on the small side. It is real loud. they capture a better range of sounds to my ears. th jumbo guitars are way to bass low mids heavy for my liking. Here are my other 2 small body guitars:
a gibson L-00 from the mid 30's a kalamazoo from the same era

i bought my 8 year old niece a Dean 1/2 size acoustic when she was 3 It will tune and play great but because of the small size it has a almost mandolin sound even when tuned to 440,Ive thought about doing some recording with it on a second track with my regular acoustic track to add a cool harmonized blend of the two.

Hobostubs: Yes the guitar was $275. I think his father is putting one up for sale that he made and will be asking $500. It is fancier than mine.
thanks! Here are some samples of the guitar with 2 mics on it. It sounds pretty much like you hear. I can't wait till I get into my new studio. I will have a spacious area that is set up for acoustic mic'ing of the guitar. Right now I am so cramped, it is like playing twister and doing the limbo all at once, and I am very limited in how much I can experiment to find the sweet spots on the guitar. Walter

My guitar is acoustic, no pu. I used 2 mics, both AKG C414's - one around the 12th fret and one below the bridge. I played my weekly farmers market gig (8:30-12) with the new guitar and 1 man band. I literally stopped playing about 3 minutes. I just couldn't let this guitar out of my hands. It blends perfect with the delta frost harps. they put out just the right amount of volume to compliment the guitar. I made about $150 too! I think it has a spell on it.
