Even further OT: In the "are you any good" thread Buddha was lamenting "You also get to hear me sing and whistle all the time which is something that will never come across the internet." With all this new found html/embedded mpeg stuff we've been learning I wonder if you could make an mpeg of yourself humming and whistling and rattling about and embed it in your signature so people could activate it while reading your words of wisdom and get the full effect! Maybe a little toooo spacey. Oh well. Dum dee dum dum dum. Woke up this mornin' all I had was gone....damn where'd I put my keys...
There is some HTML code you can use, but it's easier to use photo editing software to shrink it down and the re-upload it. Someone said Photobucket has a tool right on the site to shrink it. I use Flikr though, so I don't know how it works.
You really need to resize the photos before you put the code in your sig.
Nacoran is right, you can get the browser to resize them using html code, but that means the image still needs to be downloaded at full resolution into your browsers memory before it can be scaled. A thread full of 10kb thumbnails isn't going to slow things down too badly. A thread full of 500Kb images, even if downscaled to thumbnails, will really increase page loading times. It'll also add to the bandwidth usage for those forum members on dialup and packages with download limits.
"Greetings ladies and gents. I humbly submit for your comments the following [question, video, sound clip, etc.]"
"Greetings ladies and gents. I thank you all for your valuable input."
"Having carefully reviewed and considered your generous responses to my initial query, I will add the following rejoinder, and beg the favour of your further comments. Thank-you in advance!"
"Mr. Buddha, I thank you for your honest feedback, sir."
Upstate, here is the code. And for anyone who needs to post a copy of the code for something, here is a great link that will convert HTML into text for posting (so it doesn't disappear). Just cut and paste the code into the box on the page and hit convert to HTML. The only problem is for some reason, if you edit the post again later it turns back into HTML instead of code! So you have to cut and paste each time you edit the post. It's great for helping other people post html.
Not working. Don't know why we can't set the site up so we can just hot link to our URL or IMG. ---------- Suzuki HarpMaster in C Suzuki FolkMaster in D,E and F Hohner Old Standby in A Hohner Special 20 in Bb Hohner Big River in Low F,G,A,Bb,C and D

TNFrank, the best solution I've found is using drop box. It's a good way to store a bunch of different file types and it gives you a special url (with a right click) that works in the code from the forum how-to page.
AV8R Type this out as shown below, but place a left facing keyboard arrow to the left of img and a right facing keyboard arrow after the quote marks at the end. The arrow symbols are found to the left of the ? symbol on the keyboard.
AV8R, you can downsize it offline and then re-upload it. Technically you can resize it with HTML but it uses more server power since it has to be resized every time the image is posted instead of just once.
As long as you post the HTML around it you can cut and paste the address, but this forum doesn't automatically recognize links and do it for you. :(
Once you have it saved in your signature though, it will appear in the text box before you post, so if you need to post another picture the HTML is already there as a handy reference. :)
Hummmm.....interesting. In IE just need to turn pre on at the top and it stays on, even if you turn it off. Lose blank lines though.
But in FF you can turn it off and you don't lose blank lines, but the captcha doesn't work consistently in FF. (Rats!)
