S-harp, I don't know how to do thumbnails, but if you put the link inside this code:
<a href="http://www.whatever.com">Whatever</a>
You can at least make it a blue, clickable link with whatever name you want. In theory you could insert a picture in in place of the blue link, but I'd have to think about how to do that.
For videos it's often easier to just use YouTube. Once you have something uploaded there you just select 'share' then 'embed' and copy the code into the post box here. Dropbox is really useful for all sorts of other file types though.
@ nacoran Thank you for a swift answer. I edited my post and it worked just fine. Guess I'll get a Tube account ... ---------- The tone, the tone ... and the tone.

Here is an image showing the html code used, and the image is a link to your video. (This code probably isn't the most efficient, but it works and I don't have time to fine tune it):
(I used an image to show you the code because the forum software will read the code and render it as a linked image if it's in text form. For any web wonks here, I tried to "rem" the code out but it didn't work, my html skills are pretty rusty.)
@ easyreeder Thank U for your quick reply and help. Worked out just fine. ---------- The tone, the tone ... and the tone.

SuperBee, do you mean when you are a channel and there is no button for share, or for when embedding is disabled?
I've wound up on channel pages and had to click around a bit to get to the regular video page. Usually I cut and paste the video's title into a Google search and use that link to get to a page where they share button is there, then you have to click the share button/embed button like usual. If the video actually has embedding disabled, I don't know if there is a way to embed it. You can take the URL and at least turn it into a clickable link with this code:
When I access YouTube from my phone I don't get the same options I get from the desk. "share" let's me mail a link, so I mailed it to myself, then copied it and pasted in my message. Yes, could make a link, just thought there should be HTML code for video. Ok, I'll probably make a link, or go to the desk. ----------
1847, did you get it figured out? I was able to look at your skydive picture with the link. The most common problem with Dropbox is people grab the url from the address bar. In Dropbox you have to make sure instead that you right click the image, then scroll down to the little Dropbox tab. That will open up an option to copy the public url. Do that and post it in the code and it should work. If you are still having problems, let me know.

i think the part about posting it in the code is where i am having trouble not sure i understand those instruction. i am just a humble harmonica player not a computer programmer! will posting an audio track be the same processe? thanks for your help i was a little frustrated.
As long as you cut and paste all you have to worry about is the part between the quotation marks. Just put your url in instead of the http://www.abc.com/anySoundfile.mp3 inside the quotation marks and you are set. :)

i cheated i used your code not sure what i am missing am i the only person on here that cant post a file? i should be spending this time playing my harmonica.
You left off of the end of the code where you were trying to post an audio file, and, depending on which try, either the < at the beginning of your post or the > at the end of your post for your picture, plus you left the example text inside the quotation marks and you tried posting a pdf instead of a picture. :) I'm not sure how to post a pdf. Let me experiment.
I make too many mistakes when I try to retype the code, so I have two tabs open at once in my browser. One window has the how to page, the other has the page where I'm posting in the thread. I cut and paste the code from the How To page into the thread, then, without leaving the thread I copy the Dropbox url. I highlight the space between the quotation marks in the example and paste the Dropbox url in in it's place.
And don't feel bad. Your not the only one who has a hard time with it. Our forum software isn't the easiest to work with. At one point different browsers needed different code. People were posting files that worked fine in one browser, but that were auto-starting if someone looked at it in another browser. It took forever to figure out code that worked the same for everyone.

should be a /> at the end of the embed. Suggested approach for controlling widths is to use a simple one cell table with no border and set your width there and then put the embed in the cell ---------- MBH Webbrain - a GUI guide to Adam's Youtube vids FerretCat Webbrain - Jason Ricci's vids (by hair colour!)

Looks like about 1050 is a good height to fit a full page PDF on the page with no scroll and not much wasted space. I got rid of the little table underneath for a second, but then I did something and it came back.

Orphan, I don't know if you figured it out already or not, but I think you got the wrong URL for your picture. In Dropbox, if you right click the menu should have an option for 'Dropbox' and in that option there should be 'Copy Public Link'. Do that, and then replace it in the middle of the parenthesis in the code on the how-to page (instead of the what's in there now- that's just filler.)

Bill Sims Jr. & Mark Lavoie. Check out Vermont harmonica great Mark Lavoie's mastery of low keys. Great phrasing, great restraint, knows when not to play. Very impressive
