Brand new at forum stuff. Never see underlining. Is it a real pain to insert (maybe with a special kind of paste from Word, etc)? Need underlinin for an occasional character, not for a word or line so too annoying to write code for each one.
Thanks for the offer of help - I was just going to do some trial and error for a bit. I was trying to get a photo to show up, or at least a link to a photo at photobucket. I was trying to follow the instructions about code, that is,
Edited: hey look what it did -- i typed the code (with "blah.blah.blah" as the address, and it made a little box! Cute!
PS: i usually practice in private -- didn't realize my practising (aka screwing up) was going to be a topic. :-)
BLUEMOOSE, yeah thanks, caught on to that "edit" way to do it -- trial and error! BTW, there are lots of moose around here -- they stay brown though, even at -30F.

That's what this thread is for. Trial and error works, but HTML can be a real pain in the butt. When people have problems with it and we can help it makes us feel useful! :)
(The biggest mistake people make when posting pictures is they copy the URL from the address bar. You actually want to right click the image and copy it from there. For some reason it's different. That's about 90% of the problems with posting pics.)
if you just edit your post and test changes from there it doesn't get bumped to the top of the forum list. Sort of stealth mode. You can also then delete the post once you are finished or if it all goes horribly wrong (as I've done above).

1847, just in case it caught them while you were working on it, and in case it made it more complicated, I pulled your posts out of the spam folder today. Since you were posting a couple links the autofilter assumed you were spam. I don't know if that was right away, or a bit after you posted. It's 0-30 or so now.
thanks nacoran i thought i was losing it...wait i am losing it.lol i could use your help... just to tired to continue ---------- http://gotip.it/bobbycooper
Hmm, well, we are having some forum software issues. In addition to the spam filter going off like Chris Brown the admin privilege to edit member posts isn't working (it usually lets us edit a post, but leaves a note that an admin edited it). We don't use it often, but it's a mainstay of my ability to help on this thread, because I use it to open up a post and see what is wrong with the HTML!
Oh well. What are you trying to do? I'll have to do it the old fashioned way. :)
how the heck do you post a picture? i can post a link to get the picture that works well enough but it is bugging me that after a year of trying i still cannot get one to post how many steps are there. it seems like i am jumping all over the place isnt there a simple code to make that happen ---------- tipjar

1847, the most common mistake when trying to post a picture is copying the wrong URL. A lot of people grab the URL from the address bar at the top of the browser. You don't want that one. You want to right click the image and you should get an option like 'copy image url'. Do that and put that in the html.
1847, maybe it's because the rights are reserved? You want to click around a couple times until the right click gives you something that ends with a picture format, most likely .jpg
(If this isn't 1847's picture, I'll change it. I'm just using it under fair use to illustrate a point, since he was trying to post it and using a different picture would be less instructive.)

Like I said, most of those pages will have a couple ways you can click on them- thumbnail view, in a view with a bunch of other pics, or blown up big on a page with no text. Keep right clicking until you find a url that ends in .jpg It was on a page with no text, just the pictures in the left corner.
